Arad is situated at a distance of 75 km from Orosháza. Travelling by car it is a distance that can be covered in an hour and a half. Arad has 170 000 inhabitants, it was the capital of the former Arad county, a historic administrative county.
Arad is easily accessible by road, rail or bus. Travelling from Orosháza there is only one change at Békéscsaba and the whole journey takes about three hours. Volán transport company provides regular bus service on a daily bases to and from Arad.

Nowadays Arad still has a considerable Hungarian minority of about 15 000 inhabitants. It is a middle sized town, that can be compared to Szeged from this point of view. During the past centuries the town played an important role in the Hungarian history. Numerous moments full of painful and joyful memories are related to this place. Arad was an important scene of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. Thirteen rebel generals were executed here, known collectively as the 13 Martyrs of Arad. In one of the squares tourists can find the monument built to commemorate their memory.
Among the most impressing architectural monuments of the town is the Cultural Palace, the Calvinist Church, where Miklós Horty held his wedding in 1901. Another sight well worth a visit is the Old Theatre. Szeged is the perfect destination for a one or two day trip for visitors arriving at Orosháza.
Szeged is a city of 170,000 inhabitants, located in Csongrád county.
Taking the main road nr. 47 it is an hour’s drive south of Orosháza, but it is easily accessible by regular train service. Due to this short distance Szeged is a convenient programme all year round among the tourists arriving to our town.
Though the adventure bath of the town offers perfect relaxation, visitors arriving from Gyopáros will search for the top attractions and sights at Szeged: Dom Square, Synagouge and the Water Tower built in 1902. Hódmezővásárhely is situated in the South Eastern part of the Hungary, in the region of the Great Plain, Csongrád county.
The distance from from Orosháza is 30 km, that can be covered in half an hour by car, using the main road nr: 47. It is the second largest administrative area of the country.
Hódmezővásárhely, a large agricultural town, is a significant economical, cultural and art centre of the region. The cultural roots and traditions of the town are very rich. The tourists arriving in the town will be mainly attracted by the wide range of amasing buildings of Hódemzővásárhely.
Among the historic buildings has to be mentioned the synagogue, which is one of the most outstanding synagogues in all Hungary. Mezőhegyes is a place o visit for those who are interested in horses and horse riding.
he town situated in Békés county, 30 kilometers south of Orosháza, close to the Hungarian-Romanian border. By car, it is a half an hour drive. Mezőhegyes is a railway crosspoint, easily accessible by train.
The town with a population of about 5 000 is famous for its Nonius breeds of horses, which were bred here. The place is home of the Hungarian State Stud, offering a wide range of things to see for arriving tourists.
The Skanzen open-air ethnographic museum from Szentendre has a new entrance building, which is the reconstruction of the Mezőhegyes railway station based on original plans.

Szarvas is situated next to the main Road 44 from Kecskemét to Békéscsaba, just a few kilometers from the border of Békés county.
In the same time Szarvas is the geometrical centre of the historical Hungary, which is the geographical centre of the Carpathian Basin. It could be a popular destination of trips made either by bike or on foot.

Gyula, known as historical spa city, is located in the south-eastern region of Hungary, at a distance of 60 km from Orosháza.
It is an important border crossing point along the Romanian border. From Orosháza it can be reached by the main road number 47 going to Békéscsaba, then by the main road number 44 going to Gyula.
Visitors can get to Gyula – a town with a population of 32 000 – easily, using the means of public transort, either by train or by bus.
The main sights to see in Gyula – apart from the famous Castle Bath – include Gyula Castle, the downtown area nicely reconstructed a few years ago, the numerous fountains. Visitors can reach everything with a pleasant sight seeing walk. Among the famous personalities born in the city is the composer Ferenc Erkel who wrote the music for the Hungarian national anthem, he founded the Hungarian National Opera and composed the opera Bánk Bán. The Ferenc Erkel Memorial House,furnished in his birth house, can be found right next to the ‘Százéves’ Confectionery, the Hundred Year Old Confectionery.
The Gyula Castle Theatre offers unforgettable programmes and festivals for more than half a century. The audience can enjoy the performance of national and international artists. In summer time the teatre operates in the Castle, while in winter time the stage is placed indoors. Gyula is the town of festivals. Sausage festival is the biggest gastronomic and folk festival of summers. But pálinka and ham festivals are also popular, not to mention the historic festivals.
Talking about gastronomy: the long lasting traditions of meat industry are presented in the Museum situated in the neighbourhood of the Meat Combine of Gyula Plc, which is one of the oldest Hungarian meat industrial companies int he country. What else could be the souvenir taken home from this town than a pair of Gyula smoked sausages.

Szabadkígyós is a small village with a population of 3 000, situated south of Békéscsaba.
The distance between Orosháza and Szabadkígyós is 40 km. The village is easily acessible both by coach and car.
During the centuries of Turkish domination the place was de- and repopulated several times. Later it became property of Baron Harruckern. At the end of the 18th century it became the possession of the Wenckheim family. The castle of Count Frigyes Wenckheim and Krisztina Wenckheim was built in eclectic style between 1875-79 according to the plans made by Miklós Ybl. Nowadays the building, which used to be a school and boarding school, is empty.
The place is a popular destination among the arriving tourists.

The village Kardoskút, with 900 inhabitants, is situated just 10-15 minutes drive way from Orosháza downtown.
The settlement became independent of Hódmezővásárhely Administrative Area in 1949, a year later it belonged to Békés county. During the Socialist era the village developed significantly due to the discovery of oil and gas fields in the area. Yet the village is famous not for its industry, but its natural values: Kardoskút-White Lake Protected Natural Area, which is a protected area. In addition to the passage of birds, the most valuable bird sanctuary in Hungary is located at White Lake. Rare bird species nest here, such as the ringed plover, the godwit, the lark, the lapwing, and the avocet, these are one of the most interesting bird species in Hungary.
The settlement due to its location is easily accessible by car, railway and bus. In the same time it can be an ideal destination or resting place for cycling trips.

Csorvás is a small town with a population of 5 000 inhabitants. It is situated 15 km from Orosháza, by the main road nr: 47.
Due to its location the town is easily accessible by car, train or regular buses. The place can be an ideal destination for bicycle tours as well. Although a main road goes across the town, it has preserved its quiet, tranquil, friendly atmosphere. The tourist attractions of the town can are all situated in the main square: Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, Calvinist Church, Memorial of the II World War.
Local people are proud of the Adonis Transsylvanica, a rare and nationally protected plant, that still can be found in the neighbouring areas in great numbers. It attracts lovers of botanics.

Békéscsaba, the chief town of Békés county is situated within half an hour drive from Orosháza, on the main road no.47.
Scheduled coach and railway transport services are available to Békéscsaba in each hour of the day. The town with a population of 64 000 is the major commercial and industrial centre of the county. Some authorities, however, still operate in the former chief town of the county, Gyula.
Békéscsaba being a big town offers a wide choice of programmes and festivals almost in each month of the year. The best known festival is the Csaba Sausage Festival looking back to a decade of history. Gastronomy is one of the main tourist attraction of the town with the famous local sausage, traditional pig killing feasts and highly qualified restaurants. After tasteful dishes and good drinks we can enjoy the cultural programmes offered by Jókai Theatre or watch the reliques of Mihály Munkácsy, famous painter, who spent his years of apprentice at Békéscsaba.
